Kate is writing a column for The Oracle, er, doing sociology research. Please help her out by volunteering to share your experiences. Please contact Kate directly.
My name is Kate (I’ve commented on this site before under the name tiny pants) and I’m a graduate student in the sociology department at the University of California, San Diego. I am currently working on a project about young adult series novels for girls, and I would love to interview users from this site about their experiences and thoughts about reading these books. I can interview you via email, Gmail IM, phone, or (if you’re in Southern California) in person — whatever is easiest for you! For more info, please email me at tinypantswood [at] gmail [dot] com.
I sent her an e-mail!
Is that the right email address for sure? I emailed her and it came back undeliverable. I’m really interested! Kate, if you see this, you can contact me via email.
Might help if I included the address: kristin.boyers@gmail.com.
Thanks so much to ihatewheat for posting this! And thank you to everyone who has replied so far — I really appreciate your help with this project!
Kate, I’m emailing you as well.
Kate, is there any way we can be interviewed without revealing our names? As a fellow grad student in the social sciences, I feel compelled to help you. However, as a fellow grad student in the social sciences, I would be mortified if anyone in my field/department knew of my vast SVH knowledge!
Also, is there any way you post your paper here when you’re done with it? I would love to read it.
I sent an email too. ^_^
Jessa — To answer your question, everything within the interviews will be completely confidential and anonymous. Throughout my drafts and in the actual paper, I will not be using anyone’s real name, location, occupation, or any other identifying details that might come up in the course of the interview — as a researcher the onus is on me to be sure to maintain everyone’s anonymity at all times.
To use an example I’ve been using a lot, if it were relevant in the paper to mention where an interviewee grew up, and the person had told me they were from Stoneybrook, CT, I would say something like they were from an “affluent suburban New England town.” That’s as specific as anything would get. Does that make sense?
Please feel free to email me with any specific questions or concerns! I really appreciate everyone’s interest in helping me with this, it has been amazing.
I’m all excited! My boyfriend refuses to listen to me talk about SVH. Write me, Kate, write me!
I sent an e-mail but it failed. I’d love to be interviewed. I’m a journalist, so it’s always interesting to be the one being interviewed. Feel free to contact me. It’s jobetta@gmail.com
